Early on, Kyle, his dad and I watched everything 'Star Trek.' The former Borg Drone female, 7 of 9, could regenerate in a regeneration alcove for only 3 hours, daily. Kyle didn't understand why science had yet to come up with something similar, a recharging station of sorts. He thought sleep was a primitive thing. I totally understand why his young mind thought we were behind in our technological times. I, too, wonder if there will be a time where we can be 'plugged in,' like my laptop or phone, and still be functioning at full capacity. As for now, we still require old-fashioned sleep.
Soon after Kyle's death, someone mentioned I probably had a hard time getting out of bed in the mornings. I told them it wasn't the mornings I had a hard time dealing with; it was the nights. Lying in bed at night, I would no longer hear the floor of my son's room creaking above me as he walked across it. It was too much to bear to not hear him.
